TEXTING AND DRIVING NEW LAW IN FLORIDA

Transcript

If you received a *warning under Florida’s “Texting while driving” law, consider yourself lucky. That’s because the grace period is over.

The law actually went into effect on July first, and the hand-held ban in school and construction zones followed on October 1st, but many law enforcement agencies cut drivers some slack with a 6-month break-in period, issuing warnings rather than tickets.

Now- time’s up.

Under the new law, a first texting offense will be punishable by a $30 fine and court fees. A second offense carries a $60 fine, court costs and related fees. It will also tag three points to your driver’s license.

Florida’s law bans text messaging while a vehicle is moving, so a smart rule of thumb is- if the car is not in park- don’t text.

The attorneys at Crary Buchanan say it’s important for you to understand the parameters of the new texting while driving law so, to read the entire statute, just head to their website crarybuchanan.com.
